Skater Sues ISU

The AP reports that a civil suit being brought by former Olympic speedskating champion Claudia Pechstein is having its legitimacy disputed by the International Skating Union (ISU).

Pechstein is seeking over $5.2 million from the ISU and Germany’s speedskating association for lost earnings and personal suffering she has endured as a result of a two-year doping ban handed down in 2009.

Pechstein, who won nine medals at four Olympics, wrote on her website, "Without evident. Without a positive doping test. That still makes me angry today. Because I never doped, never took a banned substance, never used a prohibited method, never missed a doping test."

The ISU, however, issued a statement claiming the Munich court "should not have jurisdiction to review the case" and "should not have jurisdiction over the ISU."

The case has previously been heard by the Court of Arbitration of Sport and the Swiss Supreme Court.

Bolt Re-ups with Puma

Usain Bolt extended his contract with Puma past the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

Bolt signed his first contract with Puma at age 16 in 2003. The current deal will place Bolt in more global marketing campaigns starting in 2014.

Bolt recently announced that, contrary to earlier reports, he does not plan to retire after the Rio Olympics.

"Puma has been with me since the very beginning. They recognized my talent at an early age and have supported me throughout," said Bolt about the agreement.

"Their work and commitment to Jamaica is also very important to me. I am proud to represent them and am delighted to continue with them for the years ahead."

Oldest Olympian’s Birthday

The oldest living Olympian Champion turned 100 this past Monday.

Sandor Tarics, won gold in the 1936 Olympics with the Hungarian water polo team, was honored in a celebration by the Hungarian Olympic Committee.

The celebration took place in Belvedere, California and was attended by the president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee, the president of Hungarian Water Polo, and numerous other guests.

Tarics received a special personalized Hungarian Olympian Committee bathroom and wine, among other gifts celebrating his achievements.

"Maybe it is a surprise for lots of people that such a little nation like Hungary has the oldest Olympic champion," said Dr. Denes Kemeny, president of the Hungarian Water Polo Federation.

"The fact he is a water polo player is rather less surprising because every fourth Hungarian gold medal winner is an Olympic champion in this sport."

Patrick Hickey on YouTube

European Olympic Committee president Patrick Hickey gave a short interview on YouTube about the 2015 European Games.

Hickey describes the games, its model, location, and its dates in 2015.

"The idea will be like a model of the Olympic Games with some innovative features," said Hickey in the interview.

"My role in all of this will be to oversee the successful implementation of the first games, and to make sure that we have a follow up host for the next edition in 2019."

The interview in its entirety can be found here.
