Six Olympians Carry 2010 Torch

(ATR) The Vancouver 2010 flame travels north through British Columbia on Day 85 of the torch relay.

Yesterday highlights include the Vancouver Olympic torch relay traveling through 5 towns and being carried by two Olympians. The flame also crossed through Kicking Horse Pass, a high mountain pass on the Alberta/British Columbia border across the Continental Divide of the Canadian Rockies. In Lake Louise, the highest elevation in Canada, one torchbearer carried the flame on a snowcat.

Today, the torch relay departs Golden and continues through the towns of Nicholson and Parson where swimming Olympian Annamay Pierse runs with the flame.

In Edgewater, speed skating Olympian Ingrid Liepa carries the torch.

The torch travels through Kootenay National Park, Radium Hot Springs and Shuswap.

In Invermere, speed skating Olympian Krisy Myers and one other torchbearer will carry the flame while skate skiing on Lake Windermere.

A community celebration welcomes the torch at Invermeres Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena and will include a choir.

In Windermere, volleyball Olympian Terry Gagnon runs with the torch.

The flame passes through the towns of Akisqnuk, Fairmont Hot Springs and Canal Flats where swimming Olympian Wendy Hogg carries the torch.

Rowing Olympian Roger Jackson is scheduled to be a torchbearer in Kimberley.

The Olympic Torch proceeds through Marysville and reaches its final destination point of the day in Cranbrook located in southeast British Columbia.

A welcome celebration will take place at Cranbrook RecPlex. The festivities planned include an Aboriginal welcome followed by music and dance performances and recognition of local Olympians.

Over the weekend, the Olympic Flame will travel through 31 towns, be carried by twenty-one Olympians and be carried on a mountain bike in Nelson.
