(ATR) National Olympic committees from six countries meet the deadline to apply to host the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, but three of the potential bidders get more time to nominate a city.

The IOC announced the list of contenders for the 2014 YOGS on Tuesday; deadline to apply was Feb 2.

The applicants include: Nanjing, China; Jakarata, Indonesia; Poznan, Poland. NOCs from Mexico, Morocco and Turkey have asked for more time to select a city, a move the IOC has granted.

The delay means a shift in the early stage of the timetable for the 2014 selection process. Applications must now be complete by April 1, along with signed copies of the IOC procedures for the applicant cities.

The group making the April deadline will have until Sept. 4 to submit formal candidature files.

A technical review and visit by an evaluation commission will follow, along with a possible short list, ahead of a vote by the IOC Session in Vancouver next February.

A postal vote was used to select the inaugural Youth Olympics hosts during the past year: Singapore for 2010 and Innsbruck for the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics. Subsequent YOG elections are supposed to be conducted at an IOC Session.

The summer edition of the YOG will feature about 3000 participants with events in each of the sports on the Olympic program.
