Sheikh Ahmad Awarded Honorary Doctorate in Ukraine

ANOC President joins National Olympic Committee of Ukraine 25th anniversary celebrations

ANOC President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah was yesterday the recipient of an honorary doctorate from the National University of Physical Education and Sport in Ukraine, as he joined celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary of the country’s National Olympic Committee.

Sheikh Ahmad was awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa for his contributions to the development of sports and the promotion of Olympic values in Ukraine and around the world.

ANOC President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah said:

"I would like to thank the University for their special welcome. It is an incredible honour to receive this doctorate and it is a privilege to be here in Ukraine for this significant milestone for their National Olympic Committee.

"I offer my congratulations to the University for the tremendous work it does in inspiring academics and preparing sports professionals in all fields for the world of work. Sport and education are so closely linked and this is an important part of ANOC’s vision. We support National Olympic Committees in inspiring and engaging young people through educational projects."

The doctorate follows on from a number of other distinguished global honours Sheikh Ahmad has previously received for his outstanding service in sport – including the Sports Merit Award from the President of Turkey, the Highest Civilian Award from the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Saudi Sports Order from HRH Prince Sultan, General Director of Saudi Youth and Sports.

Sheikh Ahmad has also received honorary Ph.Ds in: Political Science from Dong-A University, Busan, Korea; International Relations from Taipei University, Chinese Taipei; Sports Sciences from American Academy; Sports Management from Chandrakasem Rajabhat University, Bangkok, Thailand; Sport Science from Nippon Sport Science University, Tokyo, Japan; and Political Science from Inha University, Seoul, South Korea.
