Sheffield’s Celebration of Sport is back and our 2018 celebration promises to be even bigger and even better than before.

The second staging of this exciting event will take place on Thursday 4 October at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park in the prestigious English Institute of Sport Sheffield (EISS) –past and presenttraining ground of famous sporting namessuch as Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill and Anthony Joshua,home of GB Boxing and GB Para Table Tennis and hundreds of emerging sports stars of the future.

The EISS Indoor Athletics Arena will be transformed to provide the stunning setting for the glittering gala dinner,supportedonce againby headline sponsor Meadowhall, in conjunction with joint owner British Land and hosted again by BBC Look North’s Tanya Arnold.

Firstheld two years ago, the event attracted more than600guests, including many Olympians and Paralympiansfresh from their success atthe 2016Games inRio.

This year starswill include athletes from the recentGold CoastCommonwealth GamesandPyeongChang Winter Olympics, as well as many other famous faces from Sheffield’s sporting scenewho will be announced over the coming weeks.

Richard Caborn, former Minister for Sport and now ProjectLead for Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, said: "This event mirrors what Sheffield OlympicLegacy Park is all about, aunique development bringing together elite, professional and grassroots sport.

"In what promises to be another incredible night in spectacularsurroundings, we willbehonouring those who have achievedsporting successin 2018.

"So far this year we’ve seen Sheffield made and trained sports starsshinein the Winter Olympics andthe Commonwealth Games, andwitnessed the likes of golfer Matt Fitzpatrick,cricketer Joe Root andboxerAnthony Joshua deliver on the internationalstage.

"We will also be celebrating the sportsmen and women who have achieved sporting success at grassroots levelandthe area’sup and comingyoungsters.

"Sheffield is a city of ordinary people doing extraordinary things."

Meadowhall Centre Manager Darren Pearce said:"This is one of the highlights of the sporting calendar in Sheffield, celebrating sporting individuals who have been made and trained in the region.

"Meadowhall in association with British Land is delighted to be supporting this event for the second time showcasing everything that is good about sport."

A limited number of VIP packages are available which include an exclusive champagne reception with sporting celebrities, a three course meal, wine and coffee for 10 guests in thecompany of a sports star, and a half page advert in the souvenir programme. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

The evening will include an auction, awards ceremony and a high energy sporting display showcasing Sheffield talent.

Details of the awards categories and nomination process will be announced later this month.

Two local charities will benefit from funds raised by the event - Sheffield Children’s Hospital, one of only four dedicated children’s hospitals in the UK, and Yorkshire Sport Foundation, a County Sports Partnership which supports organisations in South and West Yorkshire.
