(ATR) Companies from China, Peru and Spain are the finalists to begin rapid construction of the Pan American Village in Lima, Peru this September.
Through government cooperation with the United Kingdom, organizers of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games have shortlisted seven companies in an international contest that began in June. The final seven were chosen out of 44 applications.
Lima 2019 says that the tender for construction on the athletes village will be awarded on Sep. 8.
The contenders include China Yingying Construcción Ingeniería Corporación of China; COSAPI S.A., Ingenieros Civiles y Contratistas Generales S.A. and Obras de Ingeniería S.A. of Peru; and Acciona Construcción S.A. Peruvian branch, BESCO S.A.C. and Ortíz Construcciones y Proyectos S.A. Peruvian branch of Spain.
Once a winner is chosen, construction will need to begin immediately in order to complete the village in an extremely tight window of 22 months before the start of the event. Leaders of the Pan American Sports Organization have expressed concern with the timetable to complete the project and will closely monitor all developments.
The village is expected to house 10,000 people during Lima 2019 and will consist of seven buildings, each with 20 floors and eight apartments per floor.
The village is one of eight construction projects that Lima 2019 opened to the tender process on June 19. The "Infrastructure Program Event for the Lima 2019 XVIII Pan American Games and Sixth Parapan American Games" attracted more than 400 companies.
The other projects include the Villa Maria del Triunfo Sports Center, National Sports Village (VIDENA), Callao’s Regional Village, San Juan de Miraflores, High Performance Surf Center in Punta Rocas, Army Equitation School in La Molina and Shooting Range in Las Palmas, Surco.
Time to complete all of these major projects is dwindling with the Lima 2019 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games scheduled for July 26 to Aug. 11 and Aug. 23 to Sep. 1, respectively.
