SASCOC Grieves death of Banele Sindani

Sindani died in a shooting incident and passed away on Tuesday 1 December 2015. He was aged 60.

It is with a heavy heart that SASCOC have learnt of the death of Banele Sindani, the macro sports body’s former and first Chief Executive Officer and also a former CEO of Athletics South Africa (ASA).

Sindani died in a shooting incident and passed away on Tuesday 1 December 2015. He was aged 60.

A former Manager and CEO of ASA and Executive Director of Athletics SA Development Foundation, Sindani played a pivotal role as a sports administrator in South Africa.

Apart from these positions Sindani was also one of the founder members of The People’s Race – Soweto Marathon.

SASCOC Chief Executive Officer, Mr Tubby Reddy lamented the loss of a stalwart and conveyed his heartfelt condolences: "We mourn the sudden loss of our former colleague Banele, who as the first CEO of SASCOC set an example of good sports administration.

"As the country’s macro sports movement we are deeply saddened by the loss of such an influential sports administrator who contributed immensely to South African sport for more than two decades."

The President of SASCOC, Gideon Sam also conveyed his condolences: "Banele played a vital role in many of our structures in sport."

"His untimely death robs us of a seasoned sport administrator. Our thoughts are with his family at this time," Sam concluded.
