After placing 4th at the Olympics, at the ISSF World Championship and in 2014 also at the World Cup Final, San Marino’s 27-year old Alessandra Perilli finally climbed the whole podium, claiming the Gold medal at the ISSF World Cup Final in Nicosia (CYP). The most important Gold of her career so far.

"It is! Absolutely! I had a lot of 4th places, but now I made it. I’m so happy!" Declared an emotional Perilli after the medal match.

"During the last three months I always got good scores while I was training, but in competitions my head was not there." She continued. "In the last month we changed the stock and revolutionized everything, I trained a lot with my coach Luca and now I can’t believe it!"

In the Gold medal match Perilli faced and beat two-time Olympic Silver medallist Zuzana Rehak Stefecekova, 31 of Slovakia, building an early gap of 3 points after 9 targets, and concluding with a 13 to 11 hits win.

Silver medallist Stefecekova previously survived a shoot-off against 28-year old Fatima Galvez to enter the Gold medal match, leaving the Spaniard to shoot for the 3rd place, while another shoot-off determined the second participant to the Bronze medal match.

There, Australia’s Laetisha Scanlan, the Silver medallist at this year’s first World Cup stage in Acapulco (MEX), bested Russian shooter Tatiana Barsuk, 6th at the 2014 World Cup Final in Gabala (AZE), who finished the semifinals in 5th place.

Scanlan, unfortunately, was unable to repeat herself when a third and last tie-breaker was needed to decide the Bronze medallist. After her and Spain’s Fatima Galvez finished the medal match tied at 12 hits, the Australian missed her firs shoot-off clay, letting Galvez claim the 3rd place.

6th, with 10 semifinal hits, placed Japan’s Yukie Nakayama.

The ISSF World Cup Final in Shotgun events will continue tomorrow with the last final, the Trap Men, scheduled at 1:30 PM (UTC+3). The live streaming will be available on the ISSF official website:
