Samsung Electronics sponsors Gwangju Universiade as Global Premium Partner

The tech-giant Samsung Electronics has joined the Gwangju Universiade as an official partner.

On May 22, the Gwangju Universiade Organizing Committee (GUOC) and Samsung Electronics have signed a partnership agreement through which the company has agreed to provide consumer electronics goods for the Universiade.

The signing ceremony took place at the Gwangju City Hall participated by the GUOC President Yoon Jang-hyun, the committee Secretary-General Kim Yoon-suk, Samsung Electronics' President and CEO Yoon Boo-keun and the company's President of the Corporate Communications Team Rhee In-yong.

The electronics giant will join the Universiade as one of "Global Premium Partners," the highest level for a sponsor. It will supply the Universiade with around 9,000 appliances, such as air conditioners, TVs, refrigerators, computers and mobile phones in major venues including the Athletes Village.

Samsung Electronics which runs its production lines in Gwangju City has decided to sponsor the summer games as part of its efforts to contribute to the local community. The top-rated global company is expected to provide the finest goods and service for the young athletes coming from around the world throughout the summer events.

"We are grateful for Samsung Electronics, a global leader in the digital world, as it has agreed to support the Univrersiade as an official partner," The GUOC Presdient Yoon Jang-hyun said. "We will work closely with our new partner and make the Universiade a historic event."

Samsung Electronics' Yoon Boo-keun said: "Gwangju is strategically important for Samsung Electronics as it is a city that fosters the company's research and development and main production lines. The Gwangju Universiade will help the city leap to become a world class city." He also pledged that Samsung Electronics would do its fair share in driving the Universiade's success as an official partner and as a member of the local community.

Meanwhile, the GUOC has successfully signed partnership agreements thus far with as many as 30 sponsors including Samsung Electronics.
