(ATR) Olympic fans can become a DJ, make their own postcards, and go whitewater kayaking without ever leaving the Rio Olympic Park.
These experiences are all part of TOP Sponsor Samsung’s Rio 2016 Olympic activation. The brand has a large facility in the Olympic Park, next to the Rio 2016 megastore, where visitors will "defy barriers." Those visiting the Samsung experience have two options, they can take the full experience, or they can take part in one of two virtual reality showcases and then visit the Samsung lounge.
The full experience takes about an hour, and is an interactive tour of the capabilities of the new Samsung S7. Earlier, Around the Rings received a tour of the facility showing the full Samsung Olympic Park experience.
Upon entry visitors are handed a phone, dubbed their "buddy." Throughout the tour the phone syncs with each activity, sending the user the finished products at the end.
First on the tour is a timeline of Samsung phones, showing the evolution from the first phones in the late 1990s to the smartphones of today. After seeing the company’s cellular product history, visitors going into the DJ booth learn how to make dance beats on the Samsung Galaxy S7. After playing around for a few minutes, the beat made by visitors are saved on their "buddy," and sent to their own smartphone.
Next on the tour is the Gear Icon X Bluetooth headphone device. The Gear Icon X was given to all Olympic athletes at Rio 2016, and tracks user’s athletic activity and plays music wirelessly. Visitors get to try the device and play a game where they run with Olympic athletes, and have their heart rate monitored.
The next stop highlights the phone’s camera abilities in two ways. First a room with a unique art installation shows the power of the Galaxy S7’s low light camera. Then a room syncs the tour-goer’s Instagram account with a mirrored room to show their photo memories associated with the mobile device.
After the trip down memory lane, visitors get to experience a whitewater canoe virtual reality experience. The experience is one of two in Samsung’s space. After completing the tour, visitors will be treated to a virtual reality showcase of Olympic sports and a roller coaster ride in the United States.
On the final stop, visitors will enter a hall dedicated to the history of Samsung’s sponsorship with the Olympic Games. Interactive touch screens give information about every Games that Samsung has served as a TOP sponsor, beginning with Seoul in 1988. There visitors will take selfies that are used to create an original postcard that can be sent to the visitor’s email.
After the tour visitors are shepherded into the Samsung lounge, where they can receive more information about, test out, and purchase Samsung products. Local Carioca DJs will be playing in the space all day to entertain guests, and a staff of around 130 will be working all Games to entertain spectators.
The Samsung Olympic Park installation is open every day until the Olympic Closing Ceremony.
