(ATR) Russian sports minister Vitaly Mutko plans to file civil lawsuits against all organizations that have claimed the country's governmentsupports doping.
Russia has been under scrutiny due to the IOC's decision to ban some athletes from participating in the Rio 2016 games as a result of doping allegations.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has spoken out on the decisions to ban athletes, describing it as cynical and inhumane and calling it "outside the bounds of law, morality and humanity".
"We shall present it to the international organizations and will selectively file lawsuits to the civil courts against the authors who have accused us of supporting doping," Mutko said in an interview with Match TV according to Russian news agency TASS.
The Independent Commission of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) released a report by Canadian law professor Richard McLaren on July 18 that documented doping and the manipulation of doping tests of Russian athletes during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.
Details included evidence that Russia’s ministry of sports, the center for the training of national teams and the federal security service had covered up a doping program. The report cited 643 cases of positive test results between 2012 to 2015 that had disappeared.
The data found in this case led to WADA suggesting to all sports federations that they ban Russian athletes from international sports competitions.
