The Rugby League World Cup 2021 last week announced further details of the process that will see 14 stadiums selected to host games for the men’s tournament in 2021.

More than 200 guests from potential sponsors, host cities and stadia attended three events in Manchester, Leeds and London to hear more about the plans for the 2021 World Cup and the selection criteria for the three tournaments, the Men’s, Women’s and Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup’s, to be hosted in England in the autumn of 2021.

It was revealed that all 14 stadiums selected to host games during the Rugby League World Cup 2021 will have a minimum capacity of 12,000 and 80 percent of matches will be held in the North of England, as the Rugby Football League becomes an official partner of the Northern Powerhouse.

Guests at the three events heard from those involved in the process including Chairman of the Rugby League World Cup 2021, Nigel Wood, RLWC2021 Executive Lead Jon Dutton and Director of BBC Sport, Barbara Slater.

Rugby Director and former England Captain Kevin Sinfield also attended the events in Manchester and Leeds. Former Great Britain and England players Paul Sculthorpe MBE and Martin Offiah MBE appeared as guests on the panel at the events held in Manchester and London respectively.

Representatives from England Women’s Rugby League squad, Captain Jodie Cunningham and Vice-Captain Lois Forsell were also present alongside England Wheelchair Rugby League players James Simpson and Joe Coyd.

The Rugby Football League’s RLWC2021 Executive Lead, Jon Dutton said, "The three events held in Manchester, Leeds and London were hugely successful and I’d like to thank everyone for attending.

"Moving forward, we will now start conversations with all interested parties and in the new year the official host process will begin. Following an assessment process we’ll aim to announce the successful hosts by the end of 2018.

"2019 will see the 16-nation line up confirmed following the qualification programme and in 2020 the schedule will be revealed. 2021 will then see the final push towards the tournament.

"The 2013 World Cup was fantastic and all eyes are currently on this year’s tournament in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, we’ll be working with all our partners to make the Rugby League World Cup 2021 the biggest, most successful tournament in the UK and the World."
