Rio Releases Sport Pictograms

Organizers of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games on Thursday unveiled the sport pictograms.

In total, there are 64 pictograms – 41 Olympic and 23 Paralympic—meant to easily symbolize each sport.

"For the first time, all Olympic and Paralympic sports are individually represented. This is one of our unique contributions to the history of the Games," said Rio 2016 president Carlos Arthur Nuzman.

The pictograms are designed to be used both inside and outside the Rio 2016 "pebbles," the basic element of Rio 2016’s imagery.

Rio 2016 brand director Beth Lula said they are important tools for engaging the public from an early stage.

"The pictograms, from now until 2016, will serve as a communication platform for the promotion of the sports, for partner activations, and will be present in all the Games’ visual identity, including their application in venue decoration, signposting, tickets and licensed products, among other things," she said.

13 NOCs Visit Rio

A total of 13 National Olympic Committees participated in Rio 2016’s third NOC Open Day.

The meeting took place Tuesday and Wednesday.

Representatives from the NOCs of Belgium, Canada, Congo, Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Japan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, Slovakia, Sweden and the Netherlands made the trip to Rio.

Organizers took the delegates to a variety of Olympic sites including the Olympic Village.

Peter Reinebo, chef de mission of the Swedish Olympic delegation, said, "Things are really happening quickly at the Village and I think it will be a very good one. It’s also easy now to see how the Olympic Park will be and to understand its legacy. The distance between the Village and Olympic Park is good, and even better is how close the training facilities are."
