(ATR) Leaders of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) completed a project review for Rio 2016 on Wednesday.
With less than 500 days left until the 2016 Paralympics, members of the IPC and the Rio 2016 organizing committee met in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the seventh Project Review.
According to the IPC’s chief executive officer Xavier Gonzalez, the meeting "focused heavily on how the organizing committee, its partners and the IPC can engage the Rio and Brazilian public ahead of the launch of ticket sales on September 7."
The event organizers are planning to break the ticket sales record for Paralympic Games set in London in 2012. Rio 2016 organizers will make more than three million tickets available to the public in an attempt to break the 2.8 million tickets sold in 2012.
To kick off ticket sales, Rio 2016 is hosting International Paralympic Day on September 7 on Copacabana Beach to commemorate the Games being one year away.
"Rio 2016 is aiming to sell the most tickets ever for a Paralympic Games, and it is important that sales get off to a good start, which I think can be achieved through International Paralympic Day," Gonzalez commented.
Ticket sales were not the only subject of discussion during the project review. Organizers and IPC officials also covered transportation, workforce, financing, broadcasting and accessibility updates with just over a year left until the Games.
