(ATR) Prospective candidates for the upcoming Olympic Games Volunteer Program now have extra time to register ahead of Rio 2016.
According to a statement from Rio 2016, organizers extended the registration period for volunteers by a full month on Friday. The deadline to apply for one of the 70,000 volunteer openings available is now Dec. 15.
"There has been a significant increase in registrations over the last few weeks, as well as a number of requests to extend the registration period," Flavia Fontes, Rio 2016’s volunteer program manager, said in the release.
"It is clear that there are still many interested people who have yet to register, so we have decided to extend the registration period until December 15 to give everyone the opportunity to participate."
"This really is the last chance," Fontes added.
Over 160,000 applications from 180 countries have been received. Volunteers will work in nine possible areas: customer services, sports, press and communication, operational support, ceremonies production, protocol and languages, health services, technology and transport.
Anyone who will be 18 by Feb. 2016 and available for ten days during the Olympics can apply to volunteer atRio2016.com/Voluntarios.
