(ATR) Construction for Olympic venues is 55 percent done, according to Rio de Janeiro Olympic organizers.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Rio 2016 says it is "stepping up the pace" to complete the venues for the Games.
Rio has come under fire for perceived lackadaisical construction efforts. The IOC has repeatedly reminded organizers that time is running out before the Games start.
"With two years to go until the Games, we have concluded the planning phase and are now entering the operational preparation phase, when the competition structures begin to take shape and we get closer to the population," said Rio 2016 president Carlos Arthur Nuzman in a statement.
The statement said other announcements coming this year include the launch of ticketing, the volunteer program, and the mascots.
City infrastructure projects are also "well underway," Rio 2016 said.
