Defending Paralympic champion Australia will play Great Britain in tournaments opening match

The IWRF, in partnership with the Rio 2016 Organising Committee are pleased to announce the final schedule for wheelchair rugby. After consultation with the Olympic Broadcast Service, the schedule was developed to maximize national broadcaster’s interest in televising our sport. This is always against the need to ensure that team’s performance is not adversely affected.

Richard Allcroft, IWRF Technical Delegate for the Rio 2016 Paralympics said "we have spent several years working towards this point and it’s exciting to think that the sport will be back on the global stage."

"Rio is an amazing city and the Brazilian people know how to create an atmosphere. I can’t wait to see the athletes in the stadium competing; the slot for Paralympic Champion is open and any of the top teams in the world could take that prestigious Gold medal home."

The wheelchair rugby competition will feature 8 nations hailing from Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Great Britain, Japan, Sweden and the United States.

Play begins at 10:30 (BRT) on Wednesday, 15 September with defending Paralympic champions Australia taking on Great Britain, and host nation Brazil will face Canada to close out the first day at 19:15. The full competition schedule is attached.
