The OGS will post a photo a day, or 731 photos total, between now and the Opening Ceremony for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on August 5th, 2016.

Later that night, the Christ the Redeemer statue was cast with the colors of the Brazilian flag to mark the beginning of the official countdown to the 2016 Olympic Games.

According to Omar Raposo, the rector of the Shrine of Christ the Redeemer, the statue "is always with open arms to welcome all and vibrates with the proximity of another opportunity to promote brotherhood among peoples through sport."

"In 2016, as happened during the World Cup or the World Youth Day 2013, Rio de Janeiro will live a beautiful time of ingratiation among different nations."
