(ATR) Rio 2016 announced they have added Brazilian post office Correios as a logistical sponsor for the 2016 Summer Olympics and Paralympics Tuesday.
Correios becomes the sixth "Official Sponsor" for Rio 2016, joining Claro, Nissan, Embratel, Bradesco, and Bradesco Seguros.
The announcement was made at the Correios Cultural Center in Rio de Janeiro, attended by members of the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee, Correios executives, and Brazilian sports figures.
Correios will run logistical operations for the Olympics and Paralympics, handling over 30 million items of equipment for athletes, organizers, and officials.
"I am delighted to have Correios on our side in this great challenge," Rio 2016 president Carlos Nuzman said at the event.
Correios held a similar position for the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, when the company was in charge of transportation and assembly for competition structures.
"The Games logistics operation will involve moving about 30 million items, ranging from sports equipment to all athletes’ baggage, as well as all the furniture for the Olympic Village. Correios’ experience in transporting all kinds of materials makes us confident that we will carry out this mega-operation with complete success."
The sponsorship announcement comes five days after Rio 2016 revealed a $2.89 billion Organizing Committee budget for the 2016 Games.
