The IRB Junior World Championship 2010 in Argentina has been hailed a success by the International Rugby Board, following record-breaking attendances at matches, increased broadcast coverage and a dedicated legacy programme to grow the Game across the country.
JWC 2010 was the best attended IRB Age Grade tournament to date, with over 100,000 fans watching the 12 teams compete in 30 matches - 10 games less than JWC 2009 in Japan which attracted similar attendance - and included 16,000 for the opening Pool B encounter between the hosts and England on match day one.
The tournament was screened live by 19 broadcasters to 149 territories with a global potential reach of nearly 300 million homes. Host Broadcasters ESPN Sur provided extensive live coverage of 12 matches, more than any previous Host Broadcaster.
New Zealand’s outstanding final performance to win their third successive JWC title also showcased the talent and skill of international Under 20 players at the tournament. More than 60 players who have graced the JWC in 2008 and 2009 have already graduated to their country's full test teams.
In total, 179 tries were scored and the honour of being the tournament’s leading point scorer goes to victorious New Zealand captain Tyler Bleyendaal, who amassed 82 with two tries, 18 conversions and 12 penalties.

"We have enjoyed a wonderful festival of Rugby here in Argentina, with some exciting matches enjoyed by large crowds and a bigger global audience than ever before thanks to increased broadcast coverage and live and on-demand streaming via irb.com," said IRB Tournament Director Philippe Bourdarias.
"I would like to thank the UAR for hosting such a vibrant and colourful Junior World Championship, and we look forward to welcoming eleven teams and hosts Italy to the next edition in the Veneto region in June 2011."
A legacy programme which included 36 individual team visits to clubs and schools in the Litoral region was complemented by coaching clinics and free tickets to matches for thousands of children, igniting a passion for Rugby amongst fans in Rosario, Santa Fe and Parana.
