Qatar 2022 Confirm all FIFA World Cup Stadia will be ready for Confederations Cup 2021

Doha, Qatar; Senior members of the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, the organisation tasked with planning for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, have confirmed that all stadia to be built or renovated for the hosting of the tournament will be ready in time for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2021.

Speaking at ASPIRE4SPORT, the leading sport-business conference in the Middle East, Yasir Al-Jamal, Technical Director of the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee said:

"All stadiums that we will use to host the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup will be completed and ready for the 2021 Confederations Cup. Qatar Foundation’s stadium will break ground in early 2013 and by the end of next year we will have in place stadium design consultants for all our tournament stadiums. Construction also started last month on the Musheirib Station, part of the new Doha metro system that will be an integral part of our transportation strategy for fans."

Nasser Al-Khater, Director of Communications and Marketing for the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee also updated ASPIRE4SPORT delegates on preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup:

"All our planning is focussed squarely on hosting the FIFA World Cup in summer 2022. But if the international football community decides to switch the tournament to the winter, our plans will not be affected by this because all our stadiums will be ready by Confederations Cup 2021."

Speaking about stadium cooling technology, he added:

"Our cooling technology for stadiums will be revolutionary and will ensure a comfortable environment for players and fans. It will also be used in public areas so it will have a major legacy impact, both for sport but also in much wider applications."

The Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee also confirmed at ASPIRE4SPORT that the Qatar 2022 Local Organising Committee will begin operations by 2015.
