As the Sochi 2014 Games drew to a close, eyes of the world turned to PyeongChang, the host of the next Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2018.
Gangwon Province is holding a ceremony from February 26-28 to welcome the arrival of the Olympic Flag, which was handed over to PyeongChang during the closing ceremony of the Sochi Games, to build the Olympic atmosphere and gather interest in and support of all Gangwon citizens for the coming Olympic Games.
The event starts with the welcome ceremony and special performance in the Gangwon Provincial Hall on February 26, inviting Gangwon citizens to share the enthusiasm of taking over the Olympic Flag.
This ceremony is highlighted by the attendance of the two Gangwon-born Gold medalists in short-track speed skating (women’s 3,000 meter relay), Shim Seokhee and Gong Sangjeong, as well as the proud speed skaters and bobsledders.
After the ceremony, all the guests will participate in the Olympic Flag parade in downtown Chuncheon, the capital city of Gangwon Province. This parade continues around all 18 cities and counties of Gangwon Province during February 27-28.
The Olympic Flag arrives in PyeongChang on February 28 to the welcome of PyeongChang citizens and will be kept there over the next four years.
