(ATR) IOC member and five-time Olympian Prince Albert II of Monaco recently purchased the childhood home of his mother Grace Kelly.
The property located in Philadelphia's East Falls is the site where his father Prince Rainier III proposed to the Oscar winning actress in 1955.
The six-bedroom, 2.5 story home was sold to Prince Albert II for$754,000.
"The house was very beautiful and very special to our family," he said in an interview with People magazine. "I’m very happy to have saved this old family home from a near certain death or development.
"We're still trying to figure out what we're going to do with it," he said. "We're looking at having it contain some museum exhibit space and maybe use part of it for offices for some of our foundation work."
He visited the house often during his childhood and told People magazine of his excitement to make memories with his own children, twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella.
"I'm looking forward to showing the house to the kids, sharing it with them, having them see the garden. It'll probably be next year. We'll have to finish the work and then we'll have some sort of opening," he said.
The home was built by Grace Kelly's father, John B. Kelly during the Great Depression. John won three Olympic gold medals in rowing in the 1920s. Following his grandfather, Prince Albert II went on to compete in the bobsleigh events at five consecutive Winter Olympics for Monaco. He served asMonaco's flag bearer at the 1988, 1994, and 1998 Winter Games. He has been an IOC member since 1985.
The childhood home of Grace Kelly has been named a Pennsylvania historical landmark.
