The Gwangju Summer Universiade Organizing Committee is paying special attention in developing an athletes’ village operation plan which will help athletes to maintain optimal condition to perform their best at the Universiade.

An athletes’ village is a crucial facility of event where athletes spend most of their time and recharge when the competition is not on. It is another determinant of the Gwangju Universiade’s overall image and successful hosting.

Divided into 4 zones - operational zone, joint zone, international zone, and 35 complex 3,726 apartment unit residential zone, the athlete’s village will operate for 20 days including pre- and post-Game period.

Upon arrival at the athlete’s village, the athletes will first have to register and receive accreditation at the entry & information desk in the joint zone. Afterwards, participants can enjoy various services and benefits provided at the new resting nest.

Not to mention restaurants that provide variety of cuisines from Korean, Asian, European, and Vegetarian, for everyone’s taste, the athletes’ village houses a hospital that provides medical examination, doping test, oriental treatment, and physical therapy, and all these to help athletes recharge themselves.

Various amenities such as laundry room, hair salon, bank, post office, photo studio, book café, computer center, multi media center, karaoke, room theater, gaming center, fitness, billiard room, table tennis room, and many more will be open for athletes’ convenience and leisure activities.

Rooms for various religious activities will also be set up for those who want to practice faith even during the Universiade.

Cultural Square, also located in the athletes’ village, will offer various cultural events such as B-Boy show and K-pop concert to create a channel where everyone is connected in art and culture.

Last but not least, a competition information center in village will provide real time information on all competitions and cable TV for athletes to watch competitions.

In sum, amenity packed athletes’ village will not only serve as lodgings but also it will provide comfort of home and promote friendship and exchange.

Guest friendly athletes’ village also sought for environment-friendly construction by choosing to reconstruct an old apartment complex in downtown Gwangju into state-of-the-art facility, also fulfilling what has been the longstanding wish of the local residents. Every aspect of construction incorporated environment-friendly element to reflect the OC’s determination to bring out ‘Environment-friendly’ vision among the Gwangju Universiade’s 4 visions (Environment-friendly, Peace, IT, Culture).

The construction is due March 2015, and after a test operation, the athletes’ village will be open in time for the Universiade in July.
