Madrid, August 6th, 2008

Mercedes Coghen, the Madrid 2016 Olympic bid’s CEO, landed yesterday to the Chinese capital for attending the Beijing Olympic Games 2008, which will take place on Friday, August 8th. She said: “We are very excited for being here. I am sure that the Beijing Games will be great. Besides, we are going to learn a lot from them in order to organize the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2016”.

Together with Gerardo Corral, the Madrid 2016 Associate General Director, and Raúl Chapado, the Sports and Projects Director, Ms. Coghen has later joined Antonio Fernández Arimany, the Madrid 2016 General Director and Tania Paessler, the International Relations Manager, since these latter arrived to the Chinese capital a few days before.

The Madrid 2016 Olympic bid has a permanent office in the Beijing Hotel Crowne Plaza, where will take place all the activities it had organized for their stay in Beijing. The Madrid 2016 Olympic bid will be also very involved in the “Casa de España”. This building and organization has been organized by the Madrid 2016 Olympic bid, the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) and the Olympic Sports Association (ADO).

Besides, the responsible staff from different areas of the Madrid 2016 Olympic bid will participate in the Observer Program of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Ms. Coghen stated: “It is an excellent opportunity to know the Beijing Olympic project in depth and to learn from great true experts of the Olympics field”.
