Police Search for Spanish Olympian

(ATR) Police in Spain are searching for Blanca Fernández Ochoa, the first Spanish woman to win a medal at the Winter Olympics. She’s been missing for 10 days.

On Sunday her car was found in a town near Madrid.

On Saturday police took to social media for the first time to publicize the search for the 55-year-old Ochoa. Her disappearance was reported by family on August 23.

According to Spanish media, family sources said that Fernández Ochoaplanned to drive from Madrid to the north of Spain for a holiday in a rural house.

After not hearing from her in two days, the family alerted police.

Ochoa left her cell phone at her home in Madrid.

Ochoa won the bronze medal in the slalom at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville (1992). She was a national flag bearer twice and also won four World Cup events.

She is the sister of Francisco Fernández Ochoa, an Olympic champion in the same event in 1972 in Sapporo. He died in 2006.

Ochoa's daughter is a member of the Spanish rugby team preparing for the Tokyo Olympics.
