Pole Vault legend Yelena Isinbayeva shows her support for Doha 2017

Doha, Qatar, October 11, 2011 – Yelena Isinbayeva, the star Russian pole vaulter, has expressed her strong support for the Doha 2017 bid for the IAAF World Championships.

Yelena is one of the greatest female athletes of her generation, having set incredible world records and been two time Olympic gold medal and five times World Champion since her breakthrough in 2004. Yelena Isinbayeva knows about setting new standards and breaking barriers.

Having competed in Doha at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 2010, this incredible female star acts as a true inspiration for youth throughout the region.

Yelena Isinbayeva stated: "The IAAF World Championships in Doha will certainly set new standards. Doha did a great job organising the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships that I competed at and I believe that every athlete that competes in Doha in 2017 would have a truly unique and amazing experience."

Mr. Abdulla Al-Zaini, President of the QAAF and Executive Director of Doha 2017 Bid Committee, commented: "Our bid for 2017 is about hosting a fantastic World Championships but also about breaking barriers in the region. We are honoured to have such a talented female athlete supporting us."

Doha 2017 submitted their proposed plans for the 2017 IAAF World Championships to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) on September 1st. The decisions will be made by the IAAF Council on November 11, 2011.
