Around the Rings editors Ed Hula moderated a panel featuring Ed Hula III, Mark Bisson, Karen Rosen and Brian Pinelli, who were in Sochi for the Games, to grade the Sochi Olympics.

In this section, the panel discusses the venues and operations of the Sochi Olympics, giving both high accolades.

"It's incredible what they've done in the space of seven years. I really think that the venues are the most compact ever," Mark Bisson told the panel.

Bisson visited Sochi for the first time in 2007 right after the Russian city was awarded the Games.

Ed Hula III was more skeptical concerning the legacy of both clusters.

"There’s no city that benefits from having six world class sporting venues right in a row. The big way we’ll know if this is successful is the legacy," he told the panel.

The main takeaway from the operational side of the Sochi Games was that the hotels should have been ready, but the transportation and security were nearly flawless. Buses were on time everywhere in the coastal cluster and in the mountains.

"I was kind of blown away by how easy the security was at Sochi and we don’t have to knock on wood anymore. The Games ended without any major or minor incidences," Ed Hula told the panel before giving operations its "A-."
