In the first installment in a four-part roundtable podcast on the Sochi Games, the Around the Rings staff discusses people and sport.

The group discusses their interactions with fans and volunteers, as well as culinary options at the main press center.

In a discussion of one such outlet, Ed Hula III says, "I think we should call it by its proper name: European Restaurant."

"That’s just to differentiate it from Asian Restaurant," chimes in Karen Rosen.

As far as sports go, the Russians seemed determine to reach the top of the medal table by any means necessary.

"It should be pointed out that [Russia] got two snowboarding gold medals from a man named Vic Wild, who is American and married a Russian woman and became a Russian citizen," said Rosen.

She also mentioned the three gold medals won by Viktor Ahn, who formerly competed for South Korea.

"So you take away those five and they have eight golds, which is actually below the United States."

ATR editor-in-chief Ed Hula is joined by Mark Bisson, Ed Hula III, Karen Rosen, and Brian Pinelli. Listen to the rest of part one below.
