(ATR) International communications executive Karen Webb says she is in "a fight for life" two months after surgery for breast cancer and subsequent chemotherapy.
Webb, director of communications at the International Centre for Sport Security in Doha, is now back in her native UK for treatment, along with spouse Graham and their two children.
"Life is very challenging, probably the fight of my life," Webb tells Around the Rings after her first round of chemotherapy.
"Hard to adjust and difficult to accept," she says. "My career and life around the Olympics and sport have all come to an abrupt standstill!"
Webb’s Olympics resume began in the 1990s, when she worked at the Sydney Olympics. After that, she joined the IOC and then took a post at Vero Communications. She moved on to form her own firm, Karen Webb Consulting, advising the mayor of London and the Olympic Park Legacy Company. She joined the ICSS two years ago, moving to Doha with family. Webb says the ICSS "has been incredibly supportive."
Her Facebook page is brimming with good wishes, as well as her account of what life is like these days.
