(ATR) Last Friday, World Games officials toured sites in Birmingham, Alabama such as Railroad Park and Regions Field.
Birmingham is bidding for the 2021 World Games alongside Lima, Peru and Ufa, Russia.
A three-member evaluation commission from the International World Games Association started its on-site visits to the three candidate cities in Ufa at the beginning of October.
Commission members include leader Max Bishop, vice president of the IWGA executive committee;Joachim Gossow, CEO of the IWGA; and Co Koren, a member of the IWGA executive committee.
Around the Rings was in Birmingham last Thursday and Friday to cover the commission's visit.The agenda on Thursday began with a welcome reception at the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.
Birmingham's bid committee and the IWGA evaluation commission held a joint press conference on Friday, also at the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.
Next, the commission will visit Lima Oct. 27-31. The IWGA plans to announce the official host of the 2021 World Games on January 22, 2015.
