Peter Ueberroth, the architect of the historic and remarkably successful 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, will be honored with the "Lifetime Achievement Award" during the 12th Annual LA Sports Awards on Monday, February 27, 2017, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Ueberroth was president of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee, the organization responsible for staging and operating the Games. Under his leadership and management, the first-ever privately financed Olympics resulted in a $238 million surplus. Hailed as a national hero, Ueberroth was named Time magazine's "Man of the Year" in 1984.

"As we look back at the Olympic year of 2016 and forward to the current LA2024 Olympic bid, it’s a perfect time to celebrate Peter Ueberroth’s career," said L.A. Sports Council President David Simon. "Thanks to his success in organizing the 1984 Olympic Games, Peter’s legacy ranges from the creation of the LA84 Foundation, which is dedicated to youth sports, to his revolutionary financial model for running the Games, which since has been adopted by numerous host cities worldwide."

The "Lifetime Achievement Award" also is given in recognition of Ueberroth’s distinguished service as Commissioner of Major League Baseball (1985-1989) and Chairman of the United States Olympic Committee (2004-2008).
