A Champion for Peace since 2012, Guo Chuan is the first Chinese sailor to have single-handedly sailed around the world non-stop. Now he’s taking on the Arctic under the colours of Peace and Sport.

With the logo of Peace and Sport on the mainsail of his boat the Qingdao, Guo Chuan will soon set sail for the frozen waters of the Arctic to try and set a new world record from Murmansk in Russia to the Bering Strait.
The Chinese skipper plans to begin the challenge on 3 September, with the goal of reaching the Bering Strait in less than 15 days. He will continue his journey as far as Qingdao, his hometown, before returning to La-Trinité-sur-Mer, his homeport in France, via the Maritime Silk Road.
"This year is the 70th anniversary of the victory of World War II, as an ambassador of Peace and Sport, to challenge Arctic Ocean world record this year is very special. I’d like to promote ‘Peace and Sport’ spirit to more people. For this reason, we put 'Peace and Sport' logo on the prominent position of the mainsail. Now besides me, our team has two French crew, two German crew and one Russian crew. I believe that peace and friendship exist by no means only on our trimaran. And I hope that my voyage can help spread the message of ‘Peace and Sport’ wider" said Guo Chuan.

Joël Bouzou, the President and Founder of Peace and Sport, sent a message of encouragement to Guo Chuan for this new challenge honouring peace through sport. "On behalf of all at Peace and Sport I wish to offer my support to our Champion for Peace Guo Chuan, the first Chinese sailor to successfully sail solo and non-stop around the globe. He carries the message of peace through sport across the oceans, and he has the whole peace through sport family behind him", said the Olympic medallist on a video shown during the press conference announcing the partnership between Peace and Sport and Guo Chuan Racing, held in La-Trinité-sur-Mer on Saturday 8 August.
Chuan’s challenge will also enable Peace and Sport to raise funds for its field projects through the recycling and re-use of the mainsail of the Qingdao. Peace and Sport Managing Director Laurent Dupont announced at the press conference that "the mainsail will be used to make objects such as computer cases and wallets, the proceeds of which will fund a field program determined with Guo Chuan."
