"Passion. Connected." Slogan is unveiled at 1000days-to-go celebration and countdown to the Olympic Games

The PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) unveiled its slogan for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games at the 1000days-to-go celebration held today at Seoul’s Olympic Park.

The PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) unveiled its slogan for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games at the 1000days-to-go celebration held today at Seoul’s Olympic Park.

POCOG will reinforce its messageto the world through the new signatureslogan "Passion. Connected." which in just two simple words expresses the objectives and legacies of the PyeongChang 2018 Games.

"Passion." symbolizesPyeongChang2018 as the stage of a global festival where people willexchange inspirations,share the Koreans’warm uniquehospitality, and experience the excitement of the Olympic Spirit.

"Connected."signifies the openness of PyeongChang where all generations can participate anytime and anywhere through Korea’s cutting-edge technology and cultural convergence. It also showcases the meaning of anew beginning and opening New Horizons for winter sports in Asia to spread further throughout the world.

Combined, "Passion. Connected."expresses PyeongChang’s vision to expand the enthusiasm for and participation in winter sports to a wider audience throughout Asia, opening New Horizons for winter sports and the Winter Games.

The two capital letters"P" and "C"are PyeongChang’sinitials,and can be utilized in variations to promote PyeongChang’s key messages, for example;

- "PEOPLE. CONNECTED." : engaging people from around the world

- "POSSIBILITY. CONNECTED." : offering winter sports opportunities to more regions

- "PEACE. CONNECTED." : spreading peace through sports

The host city name of "PyeongChang" is comprised of two Chinese letters, and the letter "P" can also represent the meaning of each letter: Peace (Pyeong, 平) and Prosperity (Chang, 昌).

POCOG President Yang-ho Cho said, "The new slogan embodies POCOG’s vision to expand winter sports participation to a truly global audience and encourages people to create and share their once in a lifetime experiences at PyeongChang. By hosting the 2018 Games we want to make a lasting effect on the youth and inspire the generations to come." He added, "Celebrating just 1000 days-to-go to the Games today, we’ve seen the connected passion of our citizens and are sure that it will help us to successfully stage Korea’s first Winter Games.I would like to take this opportunity to thank all stakeholders and staff for their support so far, and look forward even more in the remaining 1000 days"

POCOG worked with a global brand consultancyfirm to create the slogan. POCOG and the firm gathered ideas from copywriters of all corners, then deliberated the shortlisted candidate slogans with a board of advisors comprised of local brand specialists to finally determine the slogan as "Passion. Connected."

The PyeongChang 2018 celebration of 1000days-to-godubbed ‘Happy PyeongChang, Promise for 1000 days’ will continue through Sunday, May 17th, and provide various activities open to the public including winter sports related exhibitions, lucky draws and promotional hs featuring the Olympic partners.

In parallel with the POCOG event, Host and Venue cities also celebrated 1000 days-to-go. Gangwon Province operated a special train from Seoul to Chuncheon, the province’s capital, upon which winter sports stars had a time to share their stories with younger athletes and sports fans. The cities of Chuncheon, PyeongChang, Gangneung and Jeongseon all hosted celebrations in the evening for local residents to share the festive spirit and enthusiasm for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
