Paris Delivers Spectacular Opening Ceremony for IWWF Waterski World Championships 2017

The historic setting at Choisy-le-Roi City Hall provided a perfect venue for the Opening Ceremony of the Waterski World Championships & IWWF.

The historic setting at Choisy-le-Roi City Hall, a short distance from the centre of Paris, provided a perfect venue for the Opening Ceremony of the Waterski World Championships of the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF). These take place here from September 4th / 10th. The events include Waterski Slalom, Tricks, Jump and Overall.

Athletes from 32 countries were paraded in a fleet of pristine vintage and classic cars against the background of City Hall which was illuminated in the colours of the French flag. The countries represented included Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Finland, France, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Peru, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Slovakia, Sweden, Ukraine and USA.

Taking part in the Opening Ceremony in this City of the 2024 Olympic Games were Denis Masseglia, President of the National Olympic and Sport Committee, Jean-Francois Martins, Deputy Mayor of Paris, Patrice Martin, President of the French Waterski & Wakeboard Federation, Didier Guillaume, Mayor of Choisy-le-Roi, Kuno Ritschard, President of IWWF, Christian Favier, President of Conseil Departmental du Val-de-Marne, Patrick Karam, Vice President of Conseil Regional Ile-de-France in charge of Sports, Youth and Associated actions, and Laurent Prevost, Prefet of Val-de-Marne, French Governing Body representative.

With World titles to be won, leading in the Overall contest with four days still to go are Marek Mlynek (SVK) in Slalom with a score of three buoys on the 10.75m line, Hanna Straltsova (BLR) with five buoys on the 12m line, Leo Anguenot (FRA) with a Jump of 57.8m, and in Tricks, Tsiapan Shpak (BLR) with 9,340 points and Luisa Jaramillo (COL) with 4,880 points.

The Industry-leading Ski Nautique 200 boat is being used throughout the Championships under the direction of Chief Judge Jeff Smith (USA).
