The Paralympic torch relay concluded its eighth day entering the 2014 host city, Sochi.

Before reaching Sochi, the flame toured Volgograd, Krasnodar, and Taganrog.

In Volgograd, the flame was created using a projection of Liubov Vasilyeva’s medal-winning performance in the Sydney Paralympics and a series of mirrors to ignite the flame.

Taganrog played host to a ceremony that reenacted Peter I’s finding of the city. It was said he saw a ship of fire at the site of modern day Taganrog and decided to go ashore there.

Krasnodar lit their flame through the hammer and anvil before Sochi received the flame.

The torch relay in Sochi will take place over three days. Wednesday, a bowl was lit in Krasnaya Polyana after ten Paralympians, along with the mayor of Sochi, ran with the torch. Sochi organizing committee president Dmitry Chernyshenko and IPC president Phil Craven were on hand for the lighting ceremony.

After visiting the mountain cluster, the flame was returned to Sochi for the night.

Thursday, 150 people will run with the torch in downtown Sochi before finishing at a ceremony at one of the Paralympic "Live Sites." Local bands will play before a small cauldron is lit.

Friday, the final torchbearers will bring conclusion to the torch relay, as the Paralympic Cauldron is lit opening the XI Winter Paralympics.

Over 10 days, 1,500 people ran with the torch in 45 cities across Russia.
