Lima, January, 31st, 2018:The Lima 2019 Coordination Commission (CoCom) visit came to close today in the Peruvian capital as Chair Keith Joseph expressed his full confidence in the Organising Committee’s ability to deliver a successful Pan American Games.

During the final meeting of the two-day visit, Mr Joseph highlighted that Coordination Commission members were "particularly impressed by the progress in the construction of the Athletes’ Village" and "pleased to see the positive results from the Government-to-Government agreement between Peru and the UK."

Today, the Lima 2019 Coordination Commission was taken to the Athletes’ Village where they observed first-hand the progress being made in the construction of the seven towers that will house athletes and officials during the Games. The construction consortium working hand-in-hand with Lima 2019 to deliver the Village, Besco-Besalco, informed Coordination Commission members that they are currently building one floor in each tower every four days, and are on target to have completed the structures by July this year.

Members of the Coordination Commission were then taken on a tour of the Callao sports cluster, which will host baseball, boxing, judo, wrestling, taekwondo and seven-a-side football.

The Coordination Commission and Lima 2019 Organising Committee then reconvened at the Swissotel for a wrap-up meeting in which Panam Sports executives provided a detailed list of deliverables for their next visit.

During the closing remarks of the meeting, Lima 2019 Coordination Commission Chair Keith Joseph said:

"It is warming to see the growth of the Organising Committee and I can remember when, not too long ago, there were only a few of us around the table during these visits.

"On behalf of all of Panam Sports and our President Neven Ilic, I’d like to give a heartfelt thank you to Lima 2019 for hosting us and a thank you to the UK team for the collaborative work they are carrying out.

"We are a closely knit family with a single objective which we are well on the way to achieving."

Speaking on the close of the Coordination Commission visit, Lima 2019 President Carlos Neuhaus said:

"I would like to thank the CoCom for their visit and for the support they provide in helping us prepare for the Pan American Games. Their experience and knowledge of hosting major sporting events is invaluable to us in our preparations and we are taking on board all of their recommendations.

"It was important for my team and I to have our efforts recognised by Panam Sports and with their approval, we will now continue to accelerate our preparations for a memorable Games in 2019 which will leave a lasting legacy for Lima and all of Peru."
