Lima, Peru; 28 January 2019: Panam Sports Secretary General Ivar Sisniega is impressed with the progress being made by the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games Organising Committee, following a three-day Chef de Mission Seminar in the Peruvian Capital.
Speaking from the San Isidro district in Lima, where the Seminar took place from 22-24 January, Ivar Sisniega said:
"There has been great interaction this week between the Organising Committee and the Chefs de Mission, who will be the connection between athletes and Lima 2019. This is why the Chef de Mission Seminar is such an important gathering.
Sisniega added that athletes will have a smooth transport experience during the Games given that the event will coincide with school holidays in Peru. In addition, exclusive lanes will be setup, which will allow for fast journeys between competition venues and the Pan American Village.
Sisniega highlighted the great progress being made by organisers:
"Lima 2019 have worked around the clock, and made great progress in all areas. As a result of the Games, Lima will have a world-class infrastructure for Peruvian athletes, and athletes from all around the world, will enjoy world-class infrastructure."
The Seminar, which gathered Chefs de Mission from 41 National Olympic Committees in the Americas, focused on areas such as security, transport and accommodation.
Lima 2019 President Carlos Neuhaus said:
"The Seminar was a great opportunity for the Chefs de Mission to familiarise themselves with the city ahead of the arrival of approximately 6,700 athletes in July. We were delighted with the positive feedback we received from them all.
"We have taken this useful feedback on board and we are now doubling down on our efforts to guarantee an exceptional experience for all athletes and their entourages taking part in the Games in July.
"I feel there is real sense of growing excitement in Peru as we prepare to host the biggest spectacle of sport in our history. A spectacle that has given us an opportunity to transform our sporting infrastructure and improve accessibility to sport for future generations."
