(ATR) Local Pan American Games sponsor CIBC is offering a ticket price reduction of 25 percent for Wednesday and Thursday, July 1-2 in celebration of Canada Day.
The promotion will end on Thursday, just over a week before the opening ceremony for the Pan Am Games. In order to get the reduced tickets, enter promo code CIBCPANAM when purchasing tickets.
Organizers are hoping to capitalize on Canadian pride by offering the discount on Canada Day, the day commemorating the signing of the Constitution Act in 1867 which united three colonies into the single country as it is known today.
Last week, organizers reported a spike in ticket sales, telling Around the Rings they sold an average of a ticket every twenty seconds over the course of the week. The spike brought total ticket sales to 650,000, nearly half of the available 1.4 million tickets.
Although many tickets remain, some events have already been sold out, including the opening ceremony; gold medal games for basketball, baseball and football; BMX events and wakeboarding.
The new promotion from Toronto 2015’s lead partner CIBC should continue to drive ticket sales up. Toronto 2015 reports tickets start at $20, with 75 percent of all tickets valued at $45 or below. Those under the age of 16 or over the age of 65 can also receive tickets for half of the price.
Pan Am Mascot Selling Big
Toronto 2015 says the games' mascot Pachi accounts for approximately 30 percent of all merchandise sales for the Pan Ams thus far.
Pachi is a porcupine with 41 multi-colored quills who wears a yellow hat that organizers say has brought "a friendliness to the games."
The ever-smiling Pachi has accompanied the torch relay route at all of its destinations, posing with spectators, athletes and torch-bearers along the 41-day journey.
The most popular Pachi product at the Pan Am merchandise stores in Toronto is the Pachi plush doll. Fans depleted the entire stock of the doll once already. Product vice president for Toronto 2015 Rick Ramsbottom says they have gone through ups and downs with the supply of the doll.
"If you really want to make sure you get Pachi, get him early," Ramsbottom says.
The Pan Am Games will run from July 10-26, followed by the Parapan Am Games August 7-15.
