(ATR)Members of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) executive board attended the Pan American Games torch lighting ceremony before its meeting on Monday.

Following tradition, the Pan Am Games torch was lit at the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan, Mexico before traveling to Canada to begin the torch relay on May 30.

Once the flame arrives in Toronto, it will begin its 41-day journey across Canada, scheduled to visit more than 130 communities throughout the country. The flame will be carried by 3,000 selected torchbearers from these communities.

After the lighting ceremony finished, the PASO executive board members met primarily to finalize details for the Pan Am Games in July, according to PASO vice president Ivar Sisniega.

Current interim president Julio Cesar Maglione told Around the Rings before the meeting he planned to discuss potential constitutional changes for PASO moving into their next presidential election. Vice president Sisniega says no new statutes were discussed.

Former PASO president Mario Vazquez Raña passed away in February after leading PASO for 40 years. Maglione will continue to serve as the interim president until the next election takes place at a date still undecided by PASO.

The election will not be held until any proposed constitution changes are approved by the IOC. The IOC will have three months to look over the document after it is submitted by PASO.

Maglione tells ATR he will not run for president of PASO after he finishes serving as the interim president. He says his duty is to prepare for the upcoming election by reorganizing the PASO constitution in order to ensure a clean election.

Also among planned executive board discussions is the future location of the PASO headquarters. Maglione says the executive board is divided among three options.

If the headquarters stay in Mexico, PASO can take advantage of eight years of free rent in the current location owned by Raña. However, some members would like to see the headquarters move to Miami while others believe it should move to the home country of the next elected president.

The next PASO executive board meeting will take place in Toronto during the Pan Am Games.
