Pampers, the world’s leading diaper brand, is a proud sponsor of U.S. Olympic gold medalist swimmer and new mom Dana Vollmer, who earned a total of three medals at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games 17 months after the birth of her son. Vollmer won the bronze in the women’s 100 meter butterfly, set an American record with a silver medal in the women’s 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay and gold in the women’s 4 x 100 meter medley relay at her appearance at the Olympic Games since becoming a mom.
Pampers celebrates the milestones achieved by Vollmer, who along with her 4 x 100 meter medley relay teammates, brought home Team USA’s historic 1,000th gold medal in summer competition. Vollmer’s comeback also placed her in history as being the first mom to win gold in USA Swimming on the Olympic stage.
"We are proud to partner with Dana, who as a first-time mom and world-class athlete showed the world that you can be a mother and an Olympian. Her performance at the Olympic Games just 17 months after having a baby is inspirational," said E. Yuri Hermida, vice president of North America Baby Care, P&G. "At Pampers we believe that achieving big dreams starts with a good night’s sleep, which is why we create outstanding diapers designed to help little ones stay dry and sleep comfortably through the night."
Vollmer first made her mark at the London 2012 Olympic Games where she won three gold medals and set two world records. She won gold medals in the 800 meter freestyle relay, the 400 meter medley relay and the 100 meter butterfly setting a world record and best time of 55.98. She also shattered expectations and was the first woman to swim the event under 56 seconds.
"Words can’t describe the excitement I feel for winning three medals, including gold at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games," Vollmer said. "Medaling at the Olympic Games means more to me now since becoming a mother. When it came down to it, I wanted to dive into the pool to give it everything I had and make Arlen proud of his mom. I’m truly honored and grateful to Pampers for all its support and for diapers that helped keep Arlen asleep through the night. Because a good night’s sleep for him means a good night sleep for me, enabling us both to wake up well rested and ready to conquer our dreams."
On September 15, Vollmer will host a Pampers Twitter Party where she will share her experiences at the Olympic Games and how being a mom has changed her life as an athlete. Fans can visit the Pampers Twitter handle @Pampers or Facebook.com/Pampers for details.
