The figures mark an increase of more than 54 million people and 150 hours on the previous world championships held in Mexico City in 2017.

New broadcast deals with Chinese network CCTV, KBS in Korea, India’s Sony ESPN, Claro Sports in Latin America and Russian channel Match! accounted for the majority of the growth. Strong numbers also came from existing partners NBC in the USA, Eleven in Chinese Taipei and Eurosport. NOS provided coverage in the host country.

The territories of China, Korea, Netherlands, India and Chinese Taipei collected the top audience figures. Channels in Chinese Taipei, Russia, Korea, USA and Colombia broadcast the highest total number of total hours from the event.

The 2019 Hyundai World Archery Championships were also streamed online by the Olympic Channel, BBC in the United Kingdom, and on World Archery’s YouTube and Facebook platforms in rights-free territories.

Official social media accounts generated 11.2 million impressions during the event, along with 4.5 million video views.

Like the television reach, the engagement rate across official social platforms and the number of unique users that visited the World Archery website also increased by close to a factor of four when compared with the championships in 2017.

The iris SPORT report did not include figures for the 2019 World Archery Para Championships, held one week earlier in ’s-Hertogenbosch, which were distributed for international broadcast for the first time.

World Archery President Prof Dr Ugur Erdener said: "The figures from ’s-Hertogenbosch mark another large increase and a new milestone in worldwide reach for the Hyundai World Archery Championships. We are excited to see consistent growth across both linear and digital platforms, and that our investment in building relationships with broadcasters and fans in key markets is paying dividends."

The 2019 Hyundai World Archery Championships took place on 10-16 June in ’s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.
