THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS ISSUED BY THE PRESS SECRETARY TO THE QUEEN
Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, will open the London 2012 Olympic Games at the Olympic Stadium on Friday, 27th July.
The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, will also open the London 2012 Paralympic Games at the Olympic Stadium on Wednesday, 29th August.
Note:
The Queen opened the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games.
The Duke of Edinburgh (on behalf of The Queen) opened the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games.
The Prince of Wales opened the 1984 Paralympic Games at Stoke Mandeville.
King George VI opened the 1948 London Olympic Games at Wembley Stadium.
King Edward VII opened the 1908 London Olympic Games at the White City Stadium.
