On May 30, the Korean participants from the U-Media Young Reporters Program gathered in Gwangju to visit the host city and inspect the venues before the actual games in July.
The U-Media Young Reporters Program is an educational program to provide young aspiring sport journalists with a unique training experience during FISU’s major multi-sport events such as the 2015 Summer Universiade.
24 participants, who have showed strong academic records and have shown the potential to succeed at their chosen media career, were selected to become a part of the U-Media Young Reporters Program. The Gwangju Universiade Organizing Committee (GUOC) selected 12 Korean participants while FISU selected 12 international participants.
11 Korean Young Reporters had a chance to learn more about the Universiade and have a glimpse of the final preparations of the 2015 Summer Universiade. The participants also visited major venues such as the Universiade Main Stadium, Nambu University Aquatics Center, and Main Media Center (MMC).
The Young Reporters Program will be an opportunity for the young reporters to not only introduce Gwangju to the world bust also be a stepping stone to become world renounced journalists in the future.
Dae-sub Shin, a junior at English Language Education Dept., Hanyang University, said, "I am so excited to be a part of 2015 Gwangju Universiade and Young Reporters Program. Since Gwangju is my hometown, I am looking forward be a part of its progress. The fact that I have been selected for this program has given me the motivation to do my best and prepare for the games."
Do-hee Bae, a junior at Political Science and International Relations Dept., Korea University, stated, "It is an honor to share the most amazing 12 days during the Universiade in Gwangju. As a reporter, I will do my best to deliver lively news as my passion will flame like the Universiade torch. I am also looking forward to enjoy the exciting games with my new friends."
