Day three opens for the IOC commission visit in Chicago. (ATR/Panasonic:Lumix)After an afternoon poring over financial details of Chicago's 2016 bid, the IOC Evaluation Commission will be treated to a gala tonight with one of the world’s most famous women on the guest list.
The gala is the only one the IOC allows a candidate city to host for the evaluation commission.
In day three of the visit to Chicago, the 13-member panel heard from Chicago on its plans for marketing and finance.
Chicago estimates that it would generate more than $2 billion in marketing revenue from sponsors, tickets and other sources.
The bid also presented its “Blue-Green” environmental plan and the proposal for the Paralympic Games.
Monday night, Chicago 2016 will bring some powerful women together at the gala: IOC commission chair Nawal El Moutawakel, Chicagoan and ex-vice chair of the 2016 board Valerie Jarrett, now one of President Barack Obama's senior advisors, and arguably the best-known woman on TV, Oprah Winfrey.
They will join the party for 150 at the world-famous Art Institute of Chicago.
Entertainment will be provided by Chicago blues legends Koko Taylor and Buddy Guy, musician and songwriter Andrew Bird and the Chicago Oprah Winfrey will try to charm Chicago’s IOC visitors at the Monday night gala. (Getty Images)Children's Choir.
Although Obama will not be there, the food will come from one of his favorite restaurants. Tony Mantuano, chef and partner at the Italian eatery Spiaggia, where Obama and his wife, Michelle, celebrated their anniversary in October, created the menu. The four-course meal will highlight local ingredients and will include a special dessert.
Wisconsin Governor Swings By
Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle made a presentation to the evaluation commission about his state's selection as a cycling hub. Road cycling and mountain biking will be in Madison, which is about 150 miles northwest of Chicago. The city is nearly a three-hour drive from Chicago and will have its own Olympic Village for 320 athletes on the campus of the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
