The Olympic Flame for the "Sochi 2014" Winter Olympic Games will stay in Acropolis overnight on Friday night, with the completion of the 6th day of the Torch Relay, organized by the Hellenic Olympic Committee.

The Olympic Flame for the "Sochi 2014" Winter Olympic Games will stay in Acropolis overnight on Friday night, with the completion of the 6th day of the Torch Relay, organized by the Hellenic Olympic Committee.

The Flame will be carried on the sacred rock of Acropolis by the Secretary General of the HOC Mr Manolis Katsiadakis who will also light the cauldron with the symbol of Olympism sending its timeless messages for peace, brotherhood and solidarity from the most historical part of Athens and Greece.

The journey of the Flame towards the capital began on Friday morning from Trikala, in a touching moment with the students of all the schools bidding farewell to the sacred light.

It continued to Karditsa, where the reception was enthusiastic by thousands of citizens, young and old and it then went through Amphissa, Delphi and Arachova in Parnassos, where the largest ski resort in Greece is. Livadia was the last stop of the torch relay before Athens.

The torch relay in Greece for the Sochi Winter Olympic Games will be completed on Saturday afternoon with the Handover ceremony of the Flame to the Russian delegation at the Panathenaic Stadium (free entry to the public). The ceremony will start at 17:00.

The Programme of the Ceremony:

17.15 The orchestra, the choir and the children’s choir of the National Opera of Greece will perform the following musical compositions under the direction of Ilias Voudouris "Five Greek Dances for large orchestra" by Nikos Skalkotas and "Polovtsian Dances" by Alexander Borodin's opera "Prince Igor".
