(ATR) New rules for liquids aboard aircraft are in effect for the Olympics, covering flights across Russia.
There is still some uncertainty over the new rules, which ban all liquids from carry-ons from January 6 until March 21. The rules were announced for Moscow’s two main international airports, Shermetyevo and Vnukovo.
Vnukovo is the third largest airport in Moscow and its main carriers are Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines.
A post on Sheremetyevo airport’s website says that all liquids, including medicines, will not be allowed in carry-on baggage for any flights from the airport. Sheremetyevo is the hub for Aeroflot and Sky Team airlines.
So far there is no word on whether another major airport, Domodedovo, is also covered by the new rule. Airlines from the Star Alliance and One World networks use this airport.
Joost Ruempol, a spokesperson for KLM, a Sky Team airline which flies to Sheremetyevo, tells Around the Rings the airline needs more time "to study the specifics of the new rule" before commenting, but he added KLM is always willing to comply with guides issued by local authorities.
