PyeongChang Hosts IPC
The International Paralympic Committee traveled to PyeongChang to complete its first project review for the 2018 Paralympic Games.
IPC CEO Xavier Gonzalez, Paralympic Games Integration Director Thanos Kostopoulos and Commercial and Marketing Director Alexis Schaefer were part of the team that met with a delegation from POCOG.
The day-and-a-half review discussed topics ranging from, the 2018 Games emblem, organizing committee structure to the marketing plan for the Games.
"It is exciting to see how much the preparations for the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games have come along in the past year," said IPC CEO Xavier Gonzalez.
"We've had very productive and open discussions and are very pleased with the quality of the organising committee team. We look forward to working together towards a very successful Paralympic Winter Games in 2018."
Queen Honors 2012 Stars, Workers
A total of 53 Brits were honored by Queen Elizabeth for the work related to the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
Queen Elizabeth II Knighted hundreds of individuals who received New Year’s Honours on Thursday.
Included in the list were Team GB medallists who were honored for their service to their sport.
The 53 who received honors included athletes, government officials, members of the armed services, volunteers, and LOCOG staff.
Sebastian Coe, LOCOG chairman, became a member of the Companions of Honour. He had already received the honor of Order of the British Empire.
Coates Calls WADA Rules "Ineffectual"
Australian Olympic Committee president John Coates blasted the testing mechanisms in place from the World Anti Doping Agency.
Coates was speaking before an inquiry at of the Australian Senate, urging for greater authority to catch drug cheats.
"You would be naive to think there are not more positive tests out there" Coates said, noting that less than one percent of all drug tests come up negative.
"The World Anti-Doping Agency acknowledged it has a problem. WADA’s testing is ineffective."
Dwight Howard Targets Rio
Dwight Howard says he wants to play in the 2016 Olympics.
The center for the Los Angeles Lakers was unable to play in London due to surgery.
"I was mad I couldn't play in the playoffs," he said on Thursday about having to miss the Games. "I was mad I couldn't play in the Olympics. I was pissed. I was looking forward to going to London. I was looking forward to making a big run in the playoffs last season, so I wasn't too happy about the fact that I had to have surgery and miss a lot of basketball."
USA Curling Honorary Captain
NFL player Vernon Davis will serve as honorary captain of the U.S. Curling team in Sochi.
USA Curling made the announcement Thursday.
The tight end also had the honor in 2010.
