Munich 2018 strengthens its Winter Olympic bid after signing Deloitte Germany. The company will advise the bid committee on organizational and economic issues in its two-year campaign to land the Games.
The partnership was announced at the Olympic Stadium in Munich. German Olympians Petra Behle and Willy Bogner attended the event and Deloitte presented its current study “The Economic Development of Olympic Winter Games”, which shows the economic impacts of the Winter Olympics.
Deloitte is also a tier two supporter of the London 2012 Games.
Earlier this month, Munich signed German bank group, Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe, as its latest sponsor in a multimillion dollar deal. The bank joins BMW, Munich Airport and Munich Fair among the main sponsors of the Olympic bid.
Adidas and Siemens are tipped to be the next to join them. Another bid announcement is scheduled next week.
Munich is aiming to become the only summer and winter Olympic host city, following its staging of the 1972 Games. PyeongChang, South Korea and Annecy in France, are the main competition in the race for 2018, which concludes with the IOC vote in 2011.
Fencing Worlds Begin in Turkey
Competition is underway at the world fencing championships in Antalya, Turkey. (Getty Images)A total of 1,100 athletes from 85 countries will be competing at the world fencing championships, which began in Antalya, Turkey on Wednesday and will run through Oct. 8.
The world fencing championships is taking place at the Antalya Expo Center, which is seating 10,000 for the six-day event. It is being organized by the Turkish Fencing Federation and Antalya Fair Management and Investment, Inc.
The event begins with individual competition in the saber, foil and epee divisions, which will run through Monday. The team competition in the same three divisions will take place Oct. 6-8.
The championships will be broadcast live in 32 countries by Eurosport and locally in Turkey by state-run network TRT.
UPS Delivers London Sponsorship
UPS will be a tier two sponsor for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. (Getty Images) UPS will become the fifth tier two partner and 22nd domestic commercial sponsor overall for the London Olympics. The Atlanta-based firm will hold the Logistics and Express Delivery category.
UPS, the world's largest package delivery company, was a provider to the Beijing Games and a worldwide partner of the 1996 Atlanta Games, 1998 Nagano Olympics and Sydney Games in 2000. Tier two sponsors tend to contribute goods or services to LOCOG, plus some cash, usually to a total value of more than $30 million.
Caribbean Olympic Broadcast Rights Awarded
International Media Content Ltd. (LMC) will broadcast the 2010 Winter Olympics inVancouver and the 2012 London Games in the Caribbean, after reaching an agreement with the IOC.
IMC, the parent company of SportsMax, has broadcast rights in all platforms including free-to-air television, subscription television, internet and mobile phone.
IMC has broadcast rights in Anguilla, Antigua-Barbuda, Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Martin, St Vincent and Grenadines, Surinam, Turks and Caicos Islands, and Trinidad and Tobago.
