The three-year countdown to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London will be celebrated at the London 2012 Open Weekend Friday through Sunday.
The open weekend features 750 events in sports, the arts and culture across Great Britain. Last year, 655 events were offered, including festivals, arts performances, free films, music performances and workshops.
Sports is the latest addition to the program, with athletics, football, cycling, tennis, badminton and table tennis among the activities offered.
London 2012 Sebastian Coe helped kick off the festivities on Friday, trying some ballet moves with the English National Ballet.
“It’s an exciting moment,” Coe told the London Telegraph. It also shows that the Games are not just about sport – it is about getting people to do things they would not normally have done before.”
The weekend is part of the Cultural Olympiad and is sponsored by BP, which is the Premier Partner of the Cultural Olympiad.
